Meet Katherine Pauly, DDS, MSD
Dr. Katherine Pauly experienced dental trauma at the age of ten years old. She slipped in the bathtub and fractured her two bottom teeth. Little did she know that this singular event would immensely influence the rest of her life.
Ten years after the accident and while attending college, Dr. Pauly was in excruciating dental pain. She received treatment from the Marquette University School of Dentistry emergency clinic. The dental resident explained that the nerve inside her fractured tooth became necrotic. Her pain was relieved by starting the root canal. It was at this visit that Dr. Pauly realized she wanted to become an endodontist. Dr. Pauly knew that she could care for others in this exact same manner.
Dr. Pauly understood the discomfort and anxiety one could experience with dental trauma. She felt that she could relate to and empathize with patients. These incidents in her life have introduced her to endodontics, and she is forever grateful for the events that have guided her to become an endodontist.
Education & Experience
Dr. Pauly grew up in Roselle, Illinois and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. She attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Business Administration in 2012. During her studies in college, she performed endodontic research on dental pulp stem cells. Dr. Pauly was published as first author in the Journal of Endodontics (JOE) for her endodontic research in 2011.
Dr. Pauly then attended Marquette University School of Dentistry and graduated Cum Laude with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2016. After dental school, Dr. Pauly completed her General Practice Residency at the Veteran Affair’s Medical Center in Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2017. She received extensive dental training with medically compromised veterans. Dr. Pauly loved working with the veterans and she will always have a special place in her heart for our veterans. After the general practice residency, she then worked as a general dentist at a community clinic, treating underserved patient populations.
After working as a general dentist, Dr. Pauly continued to follow her passion for endodontics by starting her endodontics residency at Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2018. This program at Indiana University allowed Dr. Pauly to earn both a Master of Science in Dentistry degree and an Advanced Training Certificate in Endodontics after completing her thesis and residency.
To this day, Dr. Pauly is still so grateful for the opportunities that have shaped her future to become a specialist in endodontics. Dr. Pauly has been practicing for the last nine years. Relieving patient’s dental pain is very rewarding and Dr. Pauly absolutely loves being an endodontist. Her priority as a specialist is to provide a higher standard of endodontics, comfortable dental care, and to treat her patients like family
Dr. Pauly and her fiancé have two dachshunds, Frank and Freddy. Dr. Pauly and her fiancé enjoy downhill skiing, sailing, boating, swimming, and they both have a special love for lakes, rivers, and fresh water. Buffalo has amazing water access, and you can find them on the Erie Canal, Niagara River, or Lake Erie when Dr. Pauly is not treating patients. The name “Erie Canal Endodontics, PLLC” was inspired by her love for the waterways in Buffalo. (Erie Canal Root Canal!)
